Proxi is a not-for-profit organisation: as much as possible of the amount the school pays goes directly into the teacher's pay.

Proxi is better for teachers, with better pay and conditions: including real Holiday Pay and guaranteed Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) rates at 12 weeks.

Proxi is better for the Education system, helping to retain experienced teachers in Education and keep ECTs from leaving the profession early.

Why Are Supply Teachers Leaving Education?

Supply teachers do not choose to work through private agencies. Private agencies dominate the marketplace, providing 82% of the work. Supply teachers are paid, on average, 40% less than their permanent colleagues with no Teachers' Pension.

Increasingly, private agencies are paying supply staff through umbrella companies, which remove a further 20% of their pay. Early Careers Teachers (ECT) are being offered as little as £60 a day. In Wales (the only area which keeps accurate records), between 2018 and 2021, the supply teachers workforce shrank by over 10%. The traditional agency model is broken. Teachers are leaving education. Schools need to act now to keep the supply teachers they need in education.

Proxi is the solution!

Proxi was created to help pay supply teachers a living wage. Too much of the money currently paid by schools for supply teachers goes into creating profits for private agencies. Proxi is different! Proxi is run on a not-for-profit basis. A small amount of the charge to school goes towards running Proxi, everything else goes to the teacher! In this way, the teacher can earn enough to stay in education and will be able to view supply teaching as a viable career choice once more.
